World to Build – Meet the Staff!

Community

Hey everyone! Have you ever wondered who actually runs World to Build? Have you ever wondered what the development team is doing when they aren’t working on World to Build? I went around and gave the staff team four questions to answer, and we have our answers! Here are the four questions I’m going to be asking the staff so you can be prepared to know what’s being asked:

  • Talk about yourself! Who are you? What do you like to do for fun? Position at WTB?

  • What’s your favorite part of World to Build?

  • If you could have one voxel design on World to Build, made or already created, what would it be?

  • What are you most excited about the future of World to Build?

Alright, enough chit-chat, let’s begin with the people who started World to Build: tyster and Brennan! tyster will be going first, and then we’ll have Brennan follow next up.

Talk about yourself! Who are you? What do you like to do for fun? Position at WTB?

I’m tyster, and I do all the client development here on World to Build! I mostly spend my free time watching TV and making mac and cheese. When I’m not doing those things, I’m working hard on new updates.

What’s your favorite part of World to Build?

I think my favorite part of World to Build is the community we have. Since day 1 we’ve always had a really positive and supportive community full of talented players that want to help us succeed. I don’t think we could really have gotten this far without that support.

If you could have one voxel design on World to Build, made or already created, what would it be?

I would want the Blade of Dogination so I can hang it up on my wall right next to my Blade of Domination.

What are you most excited for the future of World to Build?

I think the future of World to Build holds way too many things for me to be excited about just one. Something I’ve had my eyes on for years is visual scripting though, I think it’s a really unique coding challenge for me and will bring a whole new layer of accessibility for developers.

I hope you learned a few things about tyster, and I am certainly craving some mac and cheese now that tyster has mentioned that! Alrighty, let’s move right into Brennan!

Talk about yourself! Who are you? What do you like to do for fun? Position at WTB?

I’m Brennan, also known to some as Brick.Master! I am the Cofounder of Happy Ninja Games alongside Garrett, and I primarily work on the frontend and backend of the website. Honestly, I just break stuff a lot, then spend hours fixing it. World to Build is what consumes a majority of my fun time, but outside of that I like visiting with family and traveling. I am a big fan of the western United States and hope all of my out-of-state trips can be in that direction.

What’s your favorite part of World to Build?

My favorite part of World to Build is the experience of making a game for everyone to come together and make cool stuff. It’s been really awesome watching the awesome things people make.

If you could have one voxel design on World to Build, made or already created, what would it be?

I think it would be awesome if someone made a giant teapot. I love teapots.

What are you most excited for the future of World to Build?

Our game is constantly changing. If I have learned one thing in life, it is that you have to change to succeed. Our goals for the next year include making the gameplay experience more streamlined and less buggy, as well as introducing some fresh exciting social features to encourage that friendship and sense of community. I am most excited for the path voxels will take us down, and the amazing things people will make with them.

Sounds like Brennan is calling for all of you voxel designers, he wants a teapot! I wonder who will be the first to create one, it will be fun to watch everyone compete over teapots! (Sounds like tea). Alrighty, now that we’ve met the cofounders of World to Build, we shall move right into the other staff of World to Build, and those amazing people! We will go in order with Jarrett, Mark, and thegrimgrotto! Let’s get right into it.

Talk about yourself! Who are you? What do you like to do for fun? Position at WTB?

Hello, my name is Jarrett and I work on animations for World to Build. I am currently working specifically on new emotes for the game while also finishing up my graduate degree in digital media with a concentration in game animation. Outside of making characters move, I enjoy moving myself! I like going on hikes and seeing the world around me.

What’s your favorite part of World to Build?

My favorite part of World to Build is the creative aspect. It is awesome to see the various unique ways players use the tools to make cool things in the game. I love seeing players express their imagination using this game as their medium.

If you could have one voxel design on World to Build, made or already created, what would it be?

I just finished Better Call Saul Recently. I would love someone to make some of the iconic buildings and memorable characters from that series.

What are you most excited for the future of World to Build?

I am really excited for the emotes to be finished and showcased. There has been a lot of time and love put into them to capture the essence of the game while also being fun for players to use. These animations have easily been my favorite pieces to work on in my career so far!

Woah! That sounds like a lot of fun, imagine being the creator of being able to express yourself in World to Build, and being able to interact with others! That must be a great feeling. Let’s now go talk with Mark!

Talk about yourself! Who are you? What do you like to do for fun? Position at WTB?

Hey, I’m Mark! I’m a web and software developer who’s been a part of the online gaming community for over a decade now. I like to hike and go on spontaneous adventures for fun! My current position at World To Build is Senior Software Engineer.

My favorite part of World To Build is the voxel engine. It’s by far an amazing concept and I think it’ll allow for truly fun games!

Probably something as simple as shades or headphones.

What are you most excited for the future of World to Build?

I’m most excited for some of the features we have planned and how much this community will grow in the future! I also believe we have a community like no other, and that will continue to separate us from main competition.

Going on a hike sounds like fun, and I can’t imagine putting in all of those miles of walking! You must be tired afterward. Alrighty, let’s move into our final World to Build Staff Member: thegrimgrotto!

Talk about yourself! Who are you? What do you like to do for fun? Position at WTB?

I am an audio and tea nerd who grew up playing guitar, saxophone, brass, and some piano. My favorite tea is Lapsang Souchong. My favorite musicians I’ve been listening to a lot at the moment are Teenage Wrist, The Japanese House, Kelela, and Bjork. Sometimes, I go surfing when I’m down on the coast of North Carolina. I also like running and of course playing music. I am the Sound Artist for WTB and create the building blocks for the soundscapes used in the game. Some games I’ve been playing recently are Destiny 2 and Lost Ark.

What’s your favorite part of World to Build?

My favorite part is the community and the interactivity with the developers and the players is huge and very rewarding. I also like the infinite possibilities of creating games which make it fun and interesting.

If you could have one voxel design on World to Build, made or already created, what would it be?

If there was a voxel design, I would request a head voxel piece made of the original RX-90 Gundam head.

What are you most excited for the future of World to Build?

To be basically see how it expands. It is always improving and I enjoy watching the community grow. The more options there are for players the more the possibilities there are for creating interesting games!

Talk about yourself! Who are you? What do you like to do for fun? Position at WTB?

Hey, my name is Star! On World to Build, I’m known as Bob, but I don’t mind with whichever you call me! I’m apart of the Community Partners team, and I manage the blog, which means that this blog post you’re reading right now I created! In the fun, I like to learn programming languages, writing stories, and talking with the community on World to Build! Fun fact for you all, I have 8 cats inside of my house! I know that sounds crazy, but if you join our Discord (13+), you can see me posting pictures of my cats, or you can feel free to ask to see a picture!

What’s your favorite part of World to Build?

My favorite part of World to Build is the community! The community here is so nice and it’s fun to talk with everyone here, especially the gamenights. Those can get heated fast!

A star-shaped fedora, I’m looking at all of you voxel design creators! I hope to see it created.

What are you most excited for the future of World to Build?

I’m excited for emotes! I want a way to express myself to others in so many ways, that will be fun!

Talk about yourself! Who are you? What do you like to do for fun? Position at WTB?

My name is reman, I’m a freelance artist and amateur game designer. I work with lots of mediums but I prefer working with digital. Handful of hobbies of mine include cycling and graffiti. I work as an asset designer for the game, mainly designing cosmetics and other miscellaneous assets for the platform.

What’s your favorite part of World to Build?

My favorite part of WTB is how unique it is compared to the other Roblox-adjacent platforms out there. It doesn’t shy away from doing its own thing (Especially with voxels.), and stands out from the rest as somewhat of an underdog.

If you could have one voxel design on World to Build, made or already created, what would it be?

Big goofy cartoon tophat that extends infinietly into the sky

What are you most excited for the future of World to Build?

Probably animated voxels. This will greatly increase the freedom for players to do even crazier stuff with the editor, and will lead to nearly endless possibilities and implementations.

That’s a funny voxel-design request, but since you’re a voxel designer for World to Build, you can make your own dreams come true! Or you could put someone else up to the task, and thank them a bunch for making your dreams come true! Now, let’s go talk with our final Community Partner FarawayDrip30, and then we’ll wrap up this blog post!

Talk about yourself! Who are you? What do you like to do for fun? Position at WTB?

A 1:2000 scale replica of the human nervous system.

I’m very excited about UI, but more importantly, I’m excited for the HIERARCHY TO BE FIXED
