World to Build, Plus Two

Announcements Community

Hey friends, hope you had a good holiday and were able to spend lots of time with family and friends! Did you eat lots of food? I did. So much that I’m pretending I can still fit into my normal work pants.

In World to Build news, our team returned to the workspace this week after a good holiday break. Now that we are back into the swing of things, we’re excited to share a special announcement with you all.

A couple of days ago, we interviewed two applicants who applied for our Community Manager position. The two guys we interviewed were so awesome that we had to make a difficult decision… which one were we going to choose?

After pulling some strings and getting the spare change out of our cars, we made the decision to hire both of them as our Community Managers. But, we were only kidding about the pulling strings part.

Today, we’d like to introduce you to the new faces behind our Community Team – MrCubbles and Undertaker334.

MrCubbles, or Jethro as we know him, wowed us with his interest in game development. He’s from our neighboring country Canada, and likes to spend time hanging next to the Rocky Mountains. I sat down with Jethro and asked him some questions to let you all get to know him better.

What types of things are you going to be working on at World to Build?

“My goal at World to Build is to nurture the current community and build it as a place for people to enjoy their own developments and support one another. I also want to nurture its growth as others join and make this game and its community bigger and better.”

What interested you about World to Build?

“My own personal interest in World to Build is my undying desire to eventually break into game development myself. I have had many ideas for games that I have dreamed of one day completing, but as someone who has trouble developing on those ideas without the enjoyment of others, it’s been hard to accomplish this on my own. I see World to Build as a unique opportunity to gain the knowledge of game creation alongside hundreds of others who share a similar passion.”

So, can you tell us a little about yourself?

“I have lived in Calgary, Alberta in Canada my whole life next to the Rockies. Camping is an ongoing passion and hobby of mine and survival like hobbies in general, no matter the season. I find having nothing and being nowhere gives you the freedom to think and dream in ways you normally wouldn’t. I have also been deep into medieval history for a very long time, constantly dreaming of ways I could create games that showcase that knowledge and convey the difficulties of the period best I can to many others through game creation. For years I have been a Dungeon Master for Dungeons and Dragons and Pathfinder, creating stories for my many players over the years to experience for themselves. Hopefully one day, I can create worlds like these for millions of people to enjoy and not just a table of 5-10.”

What types of activities do you like to do in your spare time?

“In my spare time, video games have been an important aspect of what I enjoy. I have been obsessed with modding and playing Skyrim since its release and have constantly sought out games similar to it. Mount and Blade has been a huge one for me, Minecraft, Roblox, and many other sandbox style games set in or around the medieval setting have been some of my best times.”

What words do you have for the community?

“I hope World to Build can continue to grow the way that it has, encouraging others to chase their passion to create and share experiences with the world through video games. To see this game become an ongoing starting experience for everyone out there with amazing ideas that they have never had the confidence or skills to create yet, I hope this game will become that opportunity for you too. Keep building those worlds guys. Never let the dream die!”

Undertaker334, or Jacob, is also a resident of Canada and peaked our interest because of his background in volunteer work. I sat down for a quick interview with Jacob.

What types of things are you going to be working on at World to Build?

“I’m a Community Manager here, and will be organizing contests, events, and my hat collection.”

What interested you about World to Build?

“Cleisthenes once wrote: ‘The people make the place’, and that couldn’t ring more true for World to Build. What a community!”

So, can you tell us a little about yourself?

“Here’s what you got to know about me; I can’t stand four things:

1. Lists.
2. Irrational hatred.
4. Hypocrisy.
4. When people repeat numbers in a list.”

Where are you from?

“The great white North. Atop some icy mountain, I sit, clutching a frozen laptop, planning a World to Build article.”

What types of activities do you like to do in your spare time?

“Solve cryptographs, listen to Boston, and float around on my yacht.”

What games do you like to play?

“Mind games.”

What words do you have for the community?

“Be excellent to each other.”

We’re excited for the two new additions to our team and look forward to the difference they’ll make. Wish them a warm welcome if you see them in-game!
